Broken or loose brackets often are caused by eating chewy or hard foods, which is why we recommend staying away from those foods while in treatment. If a bracket does come loose, please contact us as soon as possible and we’ll get you scheduled for an appointment to reattach the bracket. Leaving a bracket unattached can slow treatment.
Wires can sometimes pop out of brackets and their sharp or pokey ends can become very uncomfortable. If this happens, please call us and we’ll walk you through ways to lessen any possible discomfort until you can come in and we’ll get it fixed.
Experiencing some soreness is a normal result of your teeth moving during treatment–especially during the early stages. Over-the-counter painkillers can remedy the problem. Sore cheeks from the rubbing of the metal brackets can also be uncomfortable. We provide wax that can be put over them. If you run out, it’s carried by most drugstores.
If you need immediate help and our office is closed, you can reach one of our team members after hours by calling 503-757-3783.
