Orthodontic emergencies are very rare, but when they occur we are here to help you.
During office hours, 8am to 5 pm: call Orenco Orthodontics: 503-924-2248
After office hours, call Dr. Buxton: 503-757-3782
Broken braces: Call our office as soon as possible, during office hours, if a brace comes loose, even if you have a scheduled appointment coming soon. We will need extra time to fix the braces. If any part of your braces comes off, save it and bring it with you to the appointment.
Wires: Sometimes wires can become “pokey” and irritate the cheek. Our patients can try to resolve the problem by moving the wire away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. If the wire will not move, try covering the closest brace with enough wax to push the cheek away from the irritation. If you cannot resolve the wire irritation, call our office for an appointment.
Pain: During the first week or two after your braces are in place and routine adjustments are complete, you will likely feel some pain, soreness or discomfort. You may take acetaminophen or ibuprofen pain relievers while you adjust to your new braces.
As a general rule, you should call the office when you experience severe pain or when you have a painful appliance problem that you cannot take care of yourself.
